Welcome

Hi, I’m Tiff Harter. People work with me when they're ready to have different conversations and get different results. Read on to learn more, how to contact me, and see pictures from my garden (incl. the fantastic puggle Obie).

What is coaching?

Coaching is a creative process that supports clients to identify, clarify, and take action on what’s important to them. Let’s compare and contrast coaching with some other personal and professional development resources to build on that definition.

  1. Coaching vs. Mentoring - A mentor is someone who has been where you want to go professionally or personally, and who is willing to share information about their experiences with you. Information is flowing from the mentor into the mentee. Coaching seeks to bring forth your own vision into focus and tap into your own answers.

  2. Coaching vs. Therapy - Therapy is often focused on healing and reflecting on the past. Coaching is focused on the future and on bringing your dreams to life in physical reality.

  3. Coaching vs. Training - Training is the delivery of information, following a set curriculum, to a participant to accomplish specific objectives. Again, information flows into the trainee from outside themselves. In coaching the agenda and objectives are set by the client, and there is no “one size fits all” experience.

  4. Coaching vs. Consulting - Consulting is when a client contracts with a subject matter expert to receive specialized goods or services. Information flows to the client, or results are delivered to the client by the consultant. In coaching the focus is on bringing what’s inside the client, what’s waiting to emerge, to the forefront in the ways most authentic to the client.
